Catchy Coin Stories

Catchy Coin Stories

Students in my class were struggling with recognizing the difference between coins, and identifying them correctly. I wasn't sure how I was going to fix this problem since I had told them the names over and over and shown them different features of the coins numerous times. I had my go to visual poster hanging for all to see, and still nothing!

Fast forward to the following day while driving to work (don't you always get the best ideas when you are nowhere near a pen and paper!) I just started thinking of funny stories that might help make the students connect the name of the coin to its features. Went in that day, told my funny stories and by the next day over half the class was able to identify every coin.

Here are the stories in poster form that I came up with to help my kiddos!

The Right Time

Well I've been waiting for the "right" time to dive in and get my Master's Degree... then I realized that there is no "right" time when you are a mom and teacher. There will always be school, sports, church, and other obligations that will make you feel like you can't do it, but my goal is to prove myself wrong! So with many encouraging words from family, friends, and coworkers I am diving in on July 11th to a new adventure! Can't wait to see where it will take me.

So if you are like me and a busy mom or dad don't let that hold you back! We can do it! Don't wait for the "right" time because it may not ever get here. Who knows what opportunities might pass us by while we are waiting for that perfect moment to get here. The time is NOW!!!

Removing Permanent Marker

This trick has been around for a while, but if you haven't seen it you are going to want to know about it!

How to easily remove permanent marker from slick surfaces or laminated products:

Step 1: Write the information you want to stay permanent.

Step 2: Use product like you normally would.

Step 3: When ready to remove, draw over your permanent writing with a dry-erase marker.
Step 4: Wipe off with a paper towel. Usually a wet paper towel makes it a little easier to wipe off!
That's it! Quick and easy and a tool that all teachers have at their fingertips!

Money Binder

Many times in years past I have had parents think they had given me money, when in fact they had not. Usually I have envelope systems, checklists, Ziploc bags, etc. to keep organized. So I always had ways to check whether I had the money or not, but definitely NOT the most organized way. Those things always end up getting put here, there, and everywhere and it takes me a while to find exactly where I thought I would keep it 'safe'. Which brought me to my next idea, a MONEY BINDER! Why not have everything that has to do with money in one place!!! Here is what I came up with, if you download and find anything you would like to add or change just let me know!

https://ecdn.teacherspayteachers.com/thumbitem/The-Money-Binder-2607451/original-2607451-1.jpg

I would suggest printing most of this on cardstock and laminating because it will be reusable every year! The money binder download has numerous choices of covers (teal, green, navy blue, hot pink, baby blue, light orange, purple, yellow, yellow fading to orange, red white and blue, black fading to gray, and finally black and pink). You also have a choice of the title 'The Money Binder' or 'Show Me The Money'! There is a student list that will go at the front of your binder (once laminated you will be able to write names with thin Sharpie and wipe off with alcohol at the end of the year). Next you will find 23 matching tabs that align with their name on the student list. Just hole-punch a Ziploc baggie and place behind their divider and you will have a great place to put the Money Records that are also included with your purchase! (This way you will know who gave the money! In case of split families or grandparents that might bring the students to school and pay, then the parents come and try and pay again, etc.) The final tab is a Stash The Cash tab that gives you a place to hold all the money you have collected, until you are able to turn it in to the office or its proper place. Enjoy!
